Program of Geosciences

Program objectives

Earth where we live, has a wealth of resources, relying on human survival. But as the population development and scientific and technological progress, the resources of the Earth's gradual depletion reduce the development of natural resources (such as oil, natural gas hydrate) technology to enhance Earth science has been a major issue. Around the world in recent years, major natural disasters (such as the 921 earthquake in Taiwan, South Asia tsunami, etc.) with the dramatic changes in the global climate, and therefore understand the Earth and protect the earth will become necessary courses of modern people. In May 2009, the United Nations will review countries' continental shelf extends, of the Ministry of the Interior also invest huge funds from 2006 onwards, the continental shelf of the investigation. Our Earth Science Program is to provide students to learn the basic knowledge of Geology and Geophysics, explore the phenomenon of Earth Sciences, and the ability to create their participation in resource development, disaster prevention, environmental protection and engineering construction.

The course content into the core curriculum emphasized the principles of Geology and Geophysics, the Applied Geoscience methods and instruments for observation and experiment specialty courses, as well as integration of other cross-cutting programs and Earth Sciences. For example, the synthesis of zeolite minerals, can be applied to environmental wastewater treatment and pollution prevention and control of fish farming, and this mineral resource regeneration and sustainable utilization. Geophysical exploration method (such as ground-penetrating radar, seismic, etc.) can be widely used in the underground pipeline detection strata depicted, groundwater detector contamination investigations, roads, road paving and construction projects. Attend this Program will help personal future employment preparation, such as applied geology of professional examinations, secondary Earth science teachers must have elected to prepare courses, science and technology for national defense reserve officers of Examination (Central Weather Bureau), marine oil and gas exploration (Oil, Geological Survey), the land and survey (Ministry of Interior), mineral synthesis. With ability.

Program of Applied GIS

Program objectives

With the development of science and technology, geographic information system data collection, storage, processing, update, query, analysis, statistics and display function has been greatly enhanced and sustainable use of fishery resources, assessment of the marine environment, maritime transport planning and disaster prevention and so gradually become more mature.

To cultivate geographic information applications talents and to show our marine areas of specialty expertise in geographic information and related areas of the NTU College of Teachers, the total composition of a geographic information and its application teaching groups, the establishment of Taiwan Ocean Information Advisory teaching system platform and teaching materials, so the students learned or enhance marine and environmental applications of geographic information.
